Beijing Nightlife

The Rickshaw (Bars)

Sanlitun Nanlu (north of the turn-off to The Bookworm), Chaoyang
Daily 24 hrs

The Rickshaw is one of Beijing's few genuinely functioning bars, in the sense of the word commonly understood outside East Asia. It spreads over two floors but the lower level has, as far as I can see, an uncertain function. Upstairs has cheap, cold draft beer, a pool table and usually a pretty decent crowd.

There is standard pub grub, including pizza and burgers, and if you really want to get legless, just order one of the reasonably priced cocktail jugs.

In short, there is nothing remarkable about the Rickshaw except its location – China – which makes it an absolutely priceless asset for the capital's expats and the growing number of locals acculturated to the western rules of booze. Long may it resist makeovers. (Reviewed by John Sexton)

Cashbox Party World (KTV)

Teng Da Plaza, 168 Xiwai Dajie, Haidian

Big big karaoke bars providing two venues with over 100 rooms each. Stay here all day and night and the patron will feed you round the clock. Good Foreign offering.

Beijing Lala Salon (LGBT)

Le Jazz Restaurant/Bar, 4/F Full Link Plaza,

Le Jazz Restaurant Bar offers a Lala (lesbian) event every Sat afternoon from 2pm-6pm. Good opportunity for new outees to feel comfortable and start some networking. Ancillary events like discussion groups and film showings are also popular.

Yugong Yishan (Live Music)

West courtyard former site of Duan Qirui Government, 3-2 Zhangzizhong Lu,

Major live acts, DJ nights, and film evenings make Yuogong Yishan one of Beijing's top nightspots and a regular high-flyer in popularity polls. Formerly a small club, its success has led to a super new (2007) giant venue in the former Duanqirui Government building.

Latte (Nightclubs)

Add: Inside Workers' Stadium north gate, Gongti 工体北门内东侧
Tel: 010-65518881
Open 8:30pm- 05:00 am

Inside the north gate of Beijing Workers' Stadium, the newly opened Latte is just a couple of minutes walk from two of the city's oldest venues, Mix and Vics. Latte's bright white awnings and a flashy logo on the top of the three-floor building make it easy to spot. The dance club is on the top floor. The interior design is surreal; industrial pipes and pressure gauges on the walls contrast with a dance floor modeled on the Titanic ballroom. A frantic mix of English chandeliers, Chinese traditional hand-carved screens, a Gothic dome, and Eames-style furniture mix modern and retro demonstrates the designer's desperate efforts to create a unique space.
