Xi'an Nightlife

Tang Dynasty Show

There is no better way to experience a different culture than to try out the local food, right? Enjoy a night in Xi'an feasting on a Dumpling Banquet, whilst sitting back and relaxing to a cultural Tang Dynasty Show filled with vibrant costumes, colorful dance and traditional music that have graced the region for centuries. This is a wonderful introduction to this ancient city.

Fountain and Music Show

North Square of the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. With an investment of 500 million Yuan, the area covers some 110,000sqm and is the largest music fountain in Asia. It is surrounded by spectacular sculptures and well-maintained landscaped areas. The Fountain and Music Show has the most benches, the longest light-belt, and the largest-scale acoustic complex in the world.
This is not only one of the most impressive squares in China but is also an important national monument to Tang culture. Shows take place on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 12:00 and 20:30 wintertime and 12:00 and 21:00 during summer.

Defu Alley (De Fu Xiang)

Only a stone's throw from bustling South Street in downtown Xi'an lies a tranquil passage called Defu Alley, well regarded by Xi'an citizens as a fine place to relax and refresh one's mind.
Located near the South Gate of Xi'an, the 200-meter alley is packed with over 20 quiet bars and cafes. If you were to ask a number of local people where you could enjoy yourself in a relaxing atmosphere, most would immediately reply by saying "De Fu Xiang," the local term for Defu Alley.

Short and narrow as it is, Defu Alley is the most renowned place in Xi'an to spend one's leisure time. It is the Xi'an parallel to Beijing's Sanlitun. Compared with the bar streets in Xi'an that the Global Times wrote about in previous editions of "Nightlife in Xi'an," Defu Alley provides customers with the most authentically European experience of ease and relaxation. That's why so many international travelers and Xi'an expats have made this such a frequent haunt.

The Bell Tower

At night the Bell Tower in the historical centre of the city is illuminated to provide a striking backdrop for the surrounding shops and restaurants. This is perhaps the best place to start your evening and to get a feel for the city's nightlife and a great location to soak up the buzzing atmosphere with the spectacle of light and colour against the dark blue dome of the night sky
