03-12-2012 | From: tibet.cn

Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region has extended its winter tourism period when tourists enjoy a 50% discount of all the local scenic spots tickets and hotels from Oct. 15, 2012 to Apr. 15, 2013.

A highlight of "winter tour in Tibet" this year is that the discount season has extended from fall to next year's spring, lasting 182 days, according to the official of Tibet Tourism Bateau.

The tourism bureau promotes a winter tour package, and official reveals that more airline companies and travel services would join the promotion and offered discounts.

In order to bring more tourists, the tourism bureau has promoted tours in major Chinese cities including Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.

It's reported that more than 7 million domestic or foreign tourists visited Tibet from January to August, up more than 25 percent year on year.

Tibet is expected to receive a record 10 million-plus tourist this year. These tourists will bring revenue of 12 billion yuan ($1.89 billion), or 17 percent of the region's gross domestic product.
